Spring has Sprung! – I think…

Have you ever had that feeling of complete contentment, when the first sound of a bird’s song after a long and silent winter fills your ears? That warm, fuzzy sensation when you see the first of a thousand tiny green buds, just waiting to burst into a beautiful swell of leaves?  That perfect  pleasure you get when you take that step out your front door into the early morning mist, the sun shining lightly on your face, the fresh smell of morning dew in the air, a cool breeze passing through your bones to tell you, “My dear friend, Spring is finally here!” ?  And oh!  isn’t it wonderful?

Sad FaceWell I can tell you, I’ve had that feeling at least once every three weeks for the past couple of months with all the crazy weather we’ve had. Mother Nature is so confused, I think she forgot what Spring is supposed to feel like. Or maybe she’s teasing us… giving us just a little taste of what we spend all winter longing for, only to whip it out from under our noses and rain on our parade. Literally.  It’s not my party, but I’m still gonna cry if I want to!

But to look on the bright side – as I always like to do –  it can be said that Mother Nature is simply teaching us to appreciate the little joys in life that we do have, no matter how long they last, because the good is never quite as good as when you place it alongside the bad. We wouldn’t appreciate the warm sun in our faces as much if we didn’t know what it was to be stuck in a polar vortex for most of the Winter. I suppose I’m speaking mostly on behalf of my fellow Canadians and those accustomed to Winter climates, who can truly appreciate what it means to feel the COLD. To those of you stuck near the equator in the blazing heat 365 days of the year, I pity you, for you will never understand…

You will never know what it feels like to  triumph the battle of walking from your front door to your car without either falling on your ass, or getting a boot or a face full of snow.

Winning, Charlie Sheen

You will never know what it feels like to come in from a long day of snow shoveling, to feel the smooth and comforting warmth of  hot chocolate sliding down your throat and extending throughout all of your extremities, only to look outside less than an hour later to find that your efforts were in vain, and you can no longer see your driveway. Or your car for that matter. Which can mean only one thing… You VS The Snow, round two! Ding, Ding, Ding! In other words, we’re jacked.

Do You Even Lift, Shoveling

But most of all, I pity you because you will never be able to appreciate the heat as much as us crazy Canucks. The proof is in the fact that we’ve had to deal with freezing cold white fluffy shit for 4 to 6 months of the year, and at the first sign of warmth we’re in shorts, where the rest of you would be in snow pants and a fur coat. Don’t believe me? Come to Canada at the end of February. There might still be snow on the ground, but if the temperature reads above 10 degrees celcius, someone will be wearing shorts. Guaranteed.

Fall vs Spring

But enough talk of snow and more talk of Spring!

The Things That Spring Brings

– Rain; otherwise known as the perfect opportunity for a free shower
– Mud. Lots and lots of mud.
– The lovely aroma of all things rotten that were hidden and preserved beneath the snow for months
– Pretty Flowers; otherwise known as the perfect last minute Mother’s Day gift! Make sure to pick from your neighbour’s garden!
– Mother’s Day; because who doesn’t love to pamper their beautiful mother! We all know she deserves it!

Happy Ma's Day! Yep, gotta love her!

Happy Ma’s Day! Yep, gotta love her!

And while we’re on the topic of holidays…

– Easter!!! Because who doesn’t love going on a wild goose chase for some good old fashioned chocolate, and possibly killing anyone or thing that gets in your way in the process… Watch out! We mean business!

EasterEdit– Birds! Oh how I missed that beautiful song!
– Lots of baby EVERYTHING. It is literally the season of sexual intercourse.
– The beginning of perfect campfire weather and everything camping! Come at me nature!

Honestly… Do I even have to say it?

– THE BEACH! Though, admittedly, it would be insane to actually swim in the early stages of Spring, what with the chunks of ice still floating around in the water and all, there is no better place to soak up the sun then on a beautiful bed of sand!

That being said…

– We are THAT MUCH CLOSER TO SUMMER!!!! Which is code to all us Redheads for: “Get ready to lube up!”

With sunscreen…. come on people, get your minds out of the gutter!

… even if it is sexual intercourse season…

On another note, Head Full of Red would like to ask you:

What do YOU like about SPRING?

As always, thanks for reading and stay tuned!
